About 200,000 persons affected by leprosy live in extreme poverty in Nigeria, 95% live on less than $1.25/day. They are socially excluded and struggle wth basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter. Read more.
2 EMPOWERMENT AND LIVELIHOOD
Children in leprosy affected families face barriers to education due to poverty and stigma, this initiates a vicious cyclethat limit opportunities for a better future.
4 LEARNING AND EDUCATION
Leprosy is highly stigmatising; a fear of infection and lack of awareness cause discrimination against persons affected by leprosy. They suffer shame, insecurity, restrictions from community participation and denial of basic human rights. Despite a recent UN resolution, vstigmatization remans rife for people affected by leprosy.
